Off the main tourist routes, on the way up the Maderas volcano from the Santa Cruz or Madroñal side, you’ll come across Mario’s house, known as El Refugio. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot where you can stop for a drink and enjoy one of the best sunsets on the island. If you’d like to stay overnight, that’s also possible, the price is arranged directly with Mario.
From there, the hike toward the volcano becomes easier thanks to the elevation, and the temperature is noticeably cooler, especially at night.
A simple, authentic place that many travelers miss , but absolutely worth the visit.
