On our farm, you can explore nearly 20 ancient petroglyphs, carefully carved into the island’s volcanic stones. These rock engravings date back to as early as 300 B.C. and continued for many centuries.
The motifs include spirals, circles, animals (like lizards), and anthropomorphic figures, hinting at a rich symbolic world. Archaeologists believe these carvings were likely made by Chorotega and other indigenous communities, possibly as part of rituals connected to nature, cosmology, and worship.
These sites are free to visit and highly recommended for anyone interested in Ometepe’s ancestral heritage. To explore them, just ask for a map at reception — we’ll point you in the right direction.
